The Sumatran orangutan is a critically endangered species of great ape native to the island of Sumatra in Indonesia. They are large primates, with males being significantly larger than females. They have long, powerful arms and a relatively short, stocky body. Orangutans also possess a large, shaggy head with a prominent face and a distinctive cheek pad structure. Sumatran orangutans are found exclusively on the island of Sumatra, primarily inhabiting tropical rainforests and swamp forests.
