The Story of Sir Indiana Bones

Hi – I’m Sir Indiana Bones – but please feel free to call me “Indy.”

First, thank you so much for liking/following me and especially for all the love you've shown. I must be the luckiest cat in the world! If you're not familiar with who I am yet, CLICK THE LINK HERE and don't miss out on following me on social media!
So, folks have asked about my hobbies, interests and just how I ended up as the “Official” Kitty of Skulls Unlimited and SKELETONS: Museum of Osteology in Oklahoma.

Well, I have Brenna, Kristin, and Ally, to thank for rescuing me in 2019. They really wanted an office cat (a dog would chew on all the bones) and asked our GM, Josh if it was OK. He suggested they visit the nearby shelter – so off they went. Boy, am I glad they did!

Like most people, (they thought) they wanted a cute little kitten. I get that. I was a kitten once, and kittens are adorable. And besides, typically, nobody wants older cats that may be set in their ways. But little did they know… I was going to win them over.

They arrived at the shelter and while the others were looking at kittens, I set my focus on Kristin. It was love at first sight for both of us. She was so sweet and nice, and she patted me practically the whole time they visited the shelter. Eventually, she said, “What about this one?”

While I’d heard someone before mention that black cats are harder to get adopted – and sadly are often more mistreated than other cats – I knew Kristin already loved me. And I just knew once the others met me – they’d love me too. Boy was I right! I don’t think I’ve ever had that many pats, scratches, and rubs all at one time.

So, now that I’d chosen my new family, the Moore Animal Welfare Adoption Center, the place that took such good care of me, including having me fixed (I still don’t know why they call it that!), decided to waive my adoption fee, gave me my shots, the girls some cat food, and even some toys for me to play with when I got home. And what a home it was…

The SKELETONS: Museum of Osteology is an amazing place. Exhibits include adaptation, locomotion, classification and diversity of the vertebrate kingdom. The dream of founder, Jay Villemarette, the museum celebrates our natural world. It offers visitors an amazing adventure that’s full of wonder, discovery, and educational insights that promote animal conservation for future generations. Well, it took me a little time to get settled into my new digs. I’m no scaredy-cat but have always been a little afraid of crowds and really like more… wait for it… INDY-vidual attention (get it, INDY-vidual?). But no, that’s not actually how I got my name.
The shelter called me Onyx, a fine name, but the girls wanted to have fun with naming me. They selected five names to choose from and the winner was, yep, Indiana Bones. The “Sir” came later.

Today, I’m still maybe a little timid but I’ve really warmed up to the rest of the “Skeleton Crew” as they are called here. I go home with Kristin or Brenna on the weekends, and during the week I’m usually discovering new places to nap, hide (so I can jump out and scare folks), or I’m finding new things to rub on (I love antlers btw). I also love sniffing fish skeletons in my spare time – maybe that’s why they feed me fresh tuna every day (I love salmon too).

So that’s pretty much it. I’m just a cat that got really lucky joining this crazy family that loves osteology and loves and takes great care of me. I look forward to sharing more funny adventures, raising awareness for animal adoption (yes, even for dogs) and support for shelters like Moore Animal Welfare Adoption Center.

Thank you again for your love and support.
