The lowland streaked tenrec is found in the tropical rainforest of northern and eastern Madagascar. This small mammal is named for its black and yellow striped fur and possesses scattered quills that are used for protection from predators. This species can also use its quills to produce a faint chattering sound when vibrated and are used to communicate within family groups. Streaked tenrecs are active during the day and night, feeding primarily on earth worms and small insects.
