The black-footed cat is native to arid dunes, scrub forests and dry grasslands of southern Africa. This small felid is similar in appearance and only slightly smaller than the domestic house cat. Black-footed cats prey on small vertebrates such as rats, mice, lizards and birds. They will also eat insects and carrion.
