The bullfrog is a large, robust amphibian known for its deep croaking call that echoes across freshwater habitats throughout North America. These frogs are skilled jumpers and swimmers, with strong hind legs adapted for leaping. Bullfrogs are opportunistic predators, feeding on a diet that includes invertebrates, birds, bats, rodents, other amphibians, and small reptiles. They are a common sight in ponds, marshes, and slow-moving streams, where their distinctive calls are often associated with warm summer nights.
