Rhinoceroses, commonly known as rhinos, are large herbivorous mammals belonging to the family Rhinocerotidae. There are five extant species of rhinos: the white rhinoceros, the black rhinoceros, the Indian rhinoceros, the Javan rhinoceros, and the Sumatran rhinoceros. Rhinos are characterized by their thick skin, large size, and distinctive horns, which are made of keratin—the same protein found in human hair and nails.
